However, despite the emergence of new technologies, essential components within electrical systems, such as fuses, remain crucial for ensuring stable operations. According to statistics from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fuse failure is a common cause of electrical fires. Hence, continuous enhancement of knowledge regarding how to properly inspect fuses and implementing preventive measures are vital for ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical systems.
How can we effectively conduct inspections on circuit breakers?The inspection method for fuses is as follows:
1. Observation of appearance
Carefully observe the appearance of the fuse and check if there is any obvious burning or discoloration on its surface. If present, it may indicate that the fuse has blown and requires timely replacement.
2. Measure resistance
Set the multimeter to the resistance detection mode, and connect the leads to both terminals of the fuse. If the reading is infinite, it indicates that the fuse has been disconnected and needs replacement. If the resistance value is zero or close to zero, it indicates that the fuse has burned out and requires either replacement of the fuse or the entire fuse assembly.
3. Current testing
Use a multimeter to select the current range, connect the tester to both ends of the fuse, and start the appliance to allow current to flow through the fuse. During this test, if the reading of the tester exceeds the rated current of the fuse, it indicates that the fuse has been overloaded and burned out, and the fuse needs to be replaced.
4. Check the socket
Sometimes, it may be found that the fuse has tripped, but the fuse has not burned out. In such cases, it is necessary to check whether the socket and contacts are aging or damaged.
